Introduction to Measurement Theory and Scale Development

Petra Riefler, 26. bis 30. September 2016

Content

The course seeks to provide a broad introduction to measurement theory for developing and assessing multi-item scales, and a user-friendly introduction to structural equations modelling (SEM) using the LISREL program.

Teaching Objectives

The course is aimed at non-experts and designed to familiarize participants with the various steps associated with the development and validation of sound measures; as well as creating an understanding of applying SEM as a tool for scale validation and substantive research by focusing on conceptualizing, estimating, and evaluating SEM models.

Prerequisites

The course assumes previous knowledge of data analysis and statistics (including factor analysis and regression).

Grading

The course will be graded based on exercises (20%) and a written report (80%).
