The Center for Entrepreneurship consolidates several offerings and activities for the promotion of technology-based start-ups in the Aachen region. It was founded in 2000 by RWTH, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the local savings banks as a part of the regional entrepreneurship initiative "GründerRegion Aachen". It is headed by Professor Malte Brettel and associated to the WIN Group since 2003. The Center for Entrepreneurship offers support for all phases of start ups.
1. Mobilization of potential founders
One goal of the Center for Entrepreneurship is to motivate researchers and students of the RWTH Aachen towards a technology-based foundation. In order to do so, successful entrepreneurs from the region share their experiences in lectures or during the annual Entrepreneurship Week. Furthermore the commersialisation plan competition „Idea to Product Europe“ is hosted at RWTH, aiming at inspiring participants to found a business based on a technological innovation. The highlight of the year is the "Aachen Technology Entrepreneurship Conference" (ATEC), where high-profile speakers from business, politics and science and more than 200 undergraduate and graduate students discuss current topics in the context of business founding.
2. Training of entrepreneurs
A wide range of training opportunities is being offered to aspiring founders through a combination of theory and hands-on workshops. In the lectures "Entrepreneurship I and II", which are held in collaboration with the WIN group, participants get to know the scientific foundations of entrepreneurship. In addition, practical and business related issues are being discussed during informal entrepreneur get-togethers. In the context of the business plan workshop series, participants can develop their own business plan under professional supervision. Another attractive offer is the "Prepare!-Workshop" (conducted in cooperation with the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management), where engineers and scientists develop technology-oriented ideas together with business students.
3. Advising founders
Individual consulting of founding teams is a core task of the Center for Entrepreneurship. On average 30 start-up teams are being supported throughout the year, focusing on business plan development, raising capital and teambuilding. In addition, the Center for Entrepreneurship has established a network of industry and technology experts over the past years which the founders can leverage.
