Being the Face of Ethics: The Interplay of Moral Identity and Moral Image
What is it like to be the „face of ethics“ for an organization? In this qualitative study, we interviewed chief ethics and compliance officers - individuals who are responsible for implementing and maintaining ethics and compliance programs. We present a grounded model that (a) develops the notion of „moral image“, (b) explores dialectic tensions regarding moral image and moral identity and (c) shows how ethics officers strove for moral identity-image congruence.
